Grocery Store Gold

Hunter really likes Captain Crunch (or whatever the Malt-o-Meal version that we buy is called), but his favorite part is the "crunch berries". So when I was at the store the other day, I saw they were doing their "Oops! All Berries" promotion, I figured he'd appreciate this treat.
So I took care of all the cold items that needed to be put away, but left the rest of the bags to do later while I got lunch ready for him and his sister. He came to keep me company and found his treasure in the bags on the floor... and he carried that box around (or pushed it around is more like it) for the next while. He knew exactly what was in there!

I just love this cute little guy!

We have a Kindergartener!

Lexi started Kindergarten last week... sorta. I would say her first "real" day was today since it was the first time all of her classmates were there at the same time. But this is the picture of her leaving with Daddy for her first day. I didn't get to take her because Hunter's well check was scheduled for the same time she needed to be there.

You know they always say it's the hardest sending your oldest off to school for the first time and most moms cry...and on and on. I will admit; I have shed some tears. But not for the reasons you'd think. I never thought when it came to where my children would be going to school that it would be so far from my control. Many people chose where they live based on the schools. I don't get that luxury here in the military. There are 3 elementary schools for the on-base residents...and of course, ours is the 3rd best of the 3 :-( And then you take into account that we live in Hawaii... whose educational programs are the worse, and it makes this mother with a teaching degree want to vomit. (So those who want to tell me how lucky I am to live in Hawaii, just need to shut it if they've never tried it. Between the lack of options when it comes to buying anything I need, the educational system, the cost of everything... just to name a few... I dread the idea of getting orders back here again. DREAD!)
So I was just hopeful that things would be okay, just to ease my mind. I'm still not at that point yet. I'm giving it 2 weeks to see if Lexi is getting the experience that she needs before I consider our other options. It'd just take way too long to explain all the details in this post, but it boils down to everything seems dumbed down from her level. I'm not too keen on my kindergartener having homework every night already, but she tells us that before they leave, the teacher gives them all the answers. What? I think the teacher thinks she's helping them see how to do the work, but for someone like Lexi, she remembers each answer...resulting in no real effort on her part. (grrr!) Stop enabling my child! Let's hope that that doesn't continue much longer.
Tomorrow, Lexi and I also need to explain to her teacher that just because her full name is Alexis but she goes by Lexi, that she need not put Alexis "Lexi" Thompson on everything. It's really bothering her. She actually went off about it today how much it bothers her. I'm just trying to see what the teacher is thinking and I can't understand it either. If you have a line on your registration that says "Nickname" or "goes by", wouldn't you just put that name on everything? She'd be cool with just Alexis too. But both?? Does she think that's what we call her? Alexis Lexi? All she needs to do is look at the hundred of names I had to put on EVERY SINGLE ITEM that she brought in to see that it says "Lexi Thompson". So hopefully this little misunderstanding can be fixed tomorrow. Hard to tell since I can't read her teacher too well...the lady hasn't said much to me.

Only need to make it to May... we can do it...
Right?

Hunter's First Haircut

So Hunter has been needing a haircut for a long time. He has some funky hairs that like to grow faster than the rest (which I already trimmed with scissors a long time ago because they were down to his nostrils!) and with those and the rest of his [baby] mop, he was ready for a trim. With Eddie's schedule finally back on days, I had him help me hold Hunter so I could go at it with the clippers. He was his usual chipper self:

At least until I started to cut his hair! :-(

He was screaming and flailing and just done, way before I was actually done. It did end up a little funky above his ears as a result of his squirming, but it should look better in a few weeks, right? So this is his after...poor little guy!
But then I made pizza for lunch and he was happy again! Love that kid!
