Saturday with Grandma and Grandpa

On Saturday, our stake had a service project cleaning up a big trail that goes all the way from Monument down to Pueblo, and our ward got half a mile to clean up. It was a good chance to talk to people in my ward that don't fall under the young mothers catergory. We have some awesome youth in our ward! For those that know me really well, it won't surprise you to hear that I managed to lose my footing trying to dislodge an old jacket from a tree and slipped into some yucky mud...all the way up to my knee in one spot. But no, that wasn't good enough, I had to manage to do it again with the other foot. Needless to say, I was happy to finally get my feet out of my shoes. Since Eddie had to work all day, Grandma and Grandpa Leavitt came to spend the day with Lexi, which she didn't seem to mind at all. She and Grandpa got to do some dancing that afternoon:

She also started feeding herself with a spoon...sorta. Here's a short clip (notice how she starts dancing in her chair when Mo Tab starts playing :-) ):

And here's just a dog gone cute photo she took this morning. What a cutie!

First steps

Yesterday, I let go of Lexi's hands while she was standing in an effort to grab her stroller at the store and she proceeded to take 3 steps before falling flat on her face. That was the very first time she ever attempted to walk without anyone holding her hands! These are some lame attempts to record them that evening...

I was afraid of this day...

My daughter, my flesh and blood, played a video game today. Much to Eddie's joy and my dismay, she actually did more than pause a game. It looked like she was actually playing, with the character (The Hulk) jumping, and slamming, and everything. I'm going to cry. Alas, witness this tragedy in my life....

Books, Books, Books!

Sometimes, I think that Lexi has a lot of toys. She plays with them all on occasion, but given the choice, she'd take a book over anything. We both think that's pretty cool. She's always been like that. She became overwhelmed at her birthday party, but as soon as she got a set of books from our friends, life was good! It's also a great diversion when I need a couple minutes to finish up something, like dinner, to just put her on the floor with several books.

The ladies at the library says to never take a book away--creates bad feelings associated with books. They even encourage them to put them into their mouths to "explore". But I'm guilty of taking books away, sad to say. You see, when they say "let your kids devour books", I'm sure they didn't mean literally. Lexi takes it literally. Within a week of getting books for Easter, there were two big bitten off chunks missing. Within a week of her birthday, you would have thought they were hand-me-down books from years of wear, not brand new. I started putting books that she started chewing behind the couch, but she also just learned how to crawl up on the couch (As I'm writing, I just had to remove another book from her mouth!) and behind to find the contraband. We had to stop getting books with tear-able pages because it was inevitable that they WOULD be torn.

I'm eating pudding tonight!

What do you get when you combine a drooly 1 year old and chocolate pudding? A great big mess! But she had a blast, so it was worth it!

This gives a good glimpse into her personality, especially when hopped up on sugar! Ha!

Happy Independence Day!

It was a Happy 4th of July in the Thompson Family!
This was Lexi's 1st real 4th, since she was only 10 days old last year and didn't get to do much of anything.
Outfit #1...getting ready to go on a walk with Mommy and Daddy. I thought she looked too much like a boy, so I wanted to put a headband on her.
Getting ready to go to a barbeque at Ben and Lynn's. I just love the little sneakers! With Grandpa Leavitt, eating star-shaped patriotic marshmallows! Mmmmm! Also, introducing outfit #2.
Crawling around at Memorial Park. She kept Mom and Dad on their toes to catch her!

Waving her flag with Grandpa! Yea 4th of July!

Fireworks started and she was entralled...

Then wanted to sit with Grandma...

Then Dad...

Then Mom...

And in the end, it had been an exhausting day. She crashed the second I buckled her in, and didn't even wake up when I got her home and ready for bed.

Lexi getting Jiggy

This is an extended dance sequence for those who've seen the shorter one.

Lexi swinging

We like to go to the park on occasion, and I finally captured a "happy Lexi" on the swings. Sometimes she just stares at me. :-) This is a couple weeks old but the video component on my blog didn't work before.
